27 Dresses.

When the first "X-Men" movie came out in the theatres, everyone was raving about Cyclops and how drop dead gorgeous and handsome and charming he was, despite not being able to see his eyes, blah blah. But while I thought Cyclops was "not bad", my attention was focused on Wolverine instead :D

And because the "Cyclops guy" - I mean, James Marsden, continued to portray supposedly 'forgettable' roles in movies such as "The Notebook", "Superman", "Hairspray", I did not take much notice of him, because he was always playing the annoying third party (!!!), or being overshadowed by the main character(s) - it even slipped my mind that he was in "Enchanted", a movie I watched just a month ago, until Mao reminded me of it. o_O

BUT....... I will admit that I appreciate chick-lit and chick-flicks very much, depending on mood and occasion (and of course, company :D). And yesterday I went to see "27 Dresses" with the other three of our Dysfunctional Family of Four, and the moment James Marsden appeared onscreen I heard gushes from the girls behind us and I immediately turned to look at HJ and Jorageous with that 'I know!!!!!' grin. He had my attention right from the first scene and continued to mesmerise me with that cheeky personality, witty sense of sarcasm and duh... his sensitive/romantic/sweetie side (even though it was mostly fictional). Awwwww.

As expected, "27 Dresses" was one huge cliche, the standard Hollywood-type romantic comedy formula, but it was generally entertaining and it had a couple of good laughs. Most importantly, it made me realise that he is no longer known as the "Cyclops guy" - his name... is James Marsden. :)

And now, after falling in love with his character from "27 Dresses", I am hoping to meet a man, in real life, who is cheeky, funny, witty, sarcastic, charming, handsome, musically talented, sensitive, and romantic, to sweep me off my feet and want to be with me for the rest of his life.

Yeah, dream on Lynn... ZzZ...

Why he is so special.

"Why is it when you want something so bad; your heart aches when you're nowhere near it, yet when you get it, your desire for it wanes and you realise, you could very well do without it in the first place."

Hmm. I definitely agree.

From a Facebook application named "What Kind of Guy Will You Fall For?"

You would fall for a Sensitive Guy
Your man will have dreamy, mysterious eyes and a shy, sweet smile. You'll be head over heels from the moment he first quotes Shakespeare to you in that inspired voice of his. Your Mr. Perfect knows how to be extremely romantic and is in tune to all your moods. He will be able share tears with you. He will always notice when you get a haircut or wear a special dress. Besides being poetical, he may be also musically talented and play you sweet melodies to win your heart. Needless to say, he will love you like crazy.

Spot on, I say.

Happy 29th Jielun!! I will see you tonight at the concert ;)

Epilogue.

Like most other bloggers, I've attempted to blog my reflections on the year gone by for the past four years, and not once have I managed to stick to my intention of doing so. The year 2007, however, has been an exceptionally memorable and special year for many reasons, and not writing about it here would be a total and utter sin. So here goes, a 'better late than never' thematic reflection on 2007, through my very own eyes, and in my very own words.

Chapter One: The Road Less Travelled

If I had to choose ONE single memory to represent the five years I'd spent in Melbourne, I would say that it was my Honours year, in less than a heartbeat. Of course, Honours was something I'd always aimed to do since my first year at university, but actually being able to complete it successfully and with satisfactory results... I didn't quite envision that. I mean, the most significant part of Honours was having to write a 12,000-word thesis, which was something I hadn't done before and sure was NOT looking forward to - good grief, I already had enough difficulty producing 2,500-word essays throughout the past three years, let alone a year-long 12,000-word thesis worth three credits on a specific topic with a supervisor to answer to?!?

But the truth is, I came out of Honours unscathed, and feeling like it was the best experience I'd ever had in my years away from home. Sure, there were the many frustrations that came with being an Honours student - writer's block, research woes, tensions with the supervisor, sudden change of topic after completing the first semester (and the panic that resulted from that change), having to visit the library every week during my summer vacation in Singapore, countless nights spent writing and writing - in bed, on my desk, on the couch, writing in the wee hours between short naps, lack of motivation, feeling like it was the end of the world, etc. All these experiences inevitably came with the decision to do an extra year, and while I absolutely hated my life and found myself waking up everyday in the second semester wondering why the f*ck I put myself to such misery, I will tell you now that it was all worth it.

Honours was not simply an extra year of academic challenges and triumphs to 'add glitter' to my otherwise ordinary Arts degree, it was also in that year that I learnt the most valuable lessons, forged friendships with some of the most amazingly intelligent people on this planet (the SMACers whom I saw ever so frequently in the postgraduate lab), and of course, successfully completed what I thought of as 'the hardest task in my 24 years of existence' (i.e. the thesis). All in all, no regrets - I cannot think of any better way to finish off my final year at school. I am grateful for the entire Honours experience, and the people who were a part of it.

SMAC (aka my second home), where I pretty much spent my ENTIRE Honours year at

In the lab with coursemate and good friend Scott (who is the smartest 27-year-old alive)

My labmates... I mean, 'housemates' - Yuxing and Caz

To be continued...

Cold cold silence.

I've heard that wishes should never be revealed lest they don't come true. Well, screw that. Because I'm someone who hardly makes wishes anyway :p

1) This year marks a very special beginning for me; a new chapter in life -- entering the workforce (ooh!). I hope I do well and do not disappoint my boss, who has been absolutely lovely so far. I also wish for an overall fulfilling and enriching experience that will contribute to my personal growth and development.

2) I am looking forward to meeting someone extraordinary who will make an impression, and hopefully, a footprint in my life. I don't mean a future boyfriend or husband, just... someone who can make me go, 'wow'. (I've met at least one person like that every year, even without wishing for it, but this year I want to actually wish for it to happen ;p)

3) To try out part-time DJ work, subject to the mother's approval and of course, my own abilities and limitations. Not commercial radio of course, I am just aiming to be my mother's colleague :D

Yup I guess that's it. Three wishes. Now all I need is a genie and a magic lamp.
